On the move!!

Since we started, we have tried to explain the differences between the different livestock production models and their differences in terms of the impact on the health of our soils and the quality of the air we breathe.
Regenerative livestock farming is based on imitating the movements we see in nature in order to achieve that beneficial effect on our farm’s soil.
The herbivore herds move in compact groups that give them protection against predators. This concentrated movement of the herds causes the animals to eat the pasture they enter uniformly, leaving a well-distributed layer of manure and urine in their wake. Once they leave that area, months will pass until they step on it again, so that the grass has time and food to recover perfectly before being grazed again.

This method is what we use at Poultree, both in raising chickens and cattle: using electric shepherds or fixed fences, we achieve this herd movement effect followed by long recovery periods.

But do you know what other beneficial effects this management has?
1.- By eating all the grass homogeneously, the recovery is uniform, maintaining its biodiversity.
2.- Every time we eat an area, the plants in that plot eliminate the same amount of roots equivalent to what we have eaten on the surface. Those roots are incorporated into the soil in the form of organic matter: our most important resource!
3.- The constant movement of the lots followed by long periods of rest manages to prevent the closure of the reinfection cycles of the parasites, so we do without the use of antiparasitics. Currently, very interesting studies are being carried out on the harmful effects of the residues of certain antiparasitics eliminated with feces on the life of our soils.
4.- We produce more grass per hectare, since we respect the recovery cycles of the pasture. This allows us to feed more animals per unit area and, therefore, improve the recovery effect on our soil.
Later we will tell you about other connections between the grazing management of our farm, the health of our animals and the nutritional quality of their meat.

All this management of our soils cannot be done without a fundamental piece: the final consumer who is committed to a change in the production model. Thank you for supporting the production of grass-fed meat and a regenerative change with your purchase.

Welcome to the livestock farming of the future!

Welcome to Poultree!
